What if I told you all of these questions could be addressed by one simple act: completing the Census.
The US Census: What is the Point?
Every 10 years the census is conducted to measure the growth of neighborhoods and communities. The data collected by the census determines the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives (a process called apportionment) and is also used to distribute billions in federal funding to local communities.According to the Census, over the next decade, lawmakers, business owners, and many others will use 2020 Census data to make critical decisions. The results will show where communities need new schools, new clinics, new roads, and more services for families, older adults, and children. The Census provides insights into family formation and housing needs, education attainment, labor force and determines if locales are increasing or decreasing in size.
Shawnee County is positioned to receive its portion of $6 billion or $2,082 per person per year.

Shawnee County currently has a response rate of 71.2%, this is above the state’s overall rate of 68.5%. Shawnee County is positioned to receive its portion of $6 billion or $2,082 per person per year. This means our community receives $20,820 per person over the next 10 years.The final day to complete the census is September 30, 2020.
