Woman on a Mission: Liz Steffen

To be a good leader, you have to participate. The worst thing you can do in a board service position is to sit back and watch things unfold. Get involved, ask questions, offer opinions, listen, learn a new perspective - these actions will make your organization stronger and help you grow personally and professionally. - Liz Steffen

Liz SteffenYWCA Board of Directors, Treasurer#ONAMISSION for 2 yearsHow did you first get involved at the YWCA?I was nominated to be a YWCA Leadership Luncheon honoree.Who is the woman you look up to the most and why? There are too many to choose from! I tend to look up to a woman who is self-confident enough to stand up for what she believes is right. What are you most proud of in your work with the YWCA?I am so proud to be a volunteer for an organization that does so much to help women in crisis situations, be it domestic violence or human trafficking. What is one thing you’ve learned in your time on the board? To be a good leader, you have to participate. The worst thing you can do in a board service position is to sit back and watch things unfold. Get involved, ask questions, offer opinions, listen, learn a new perspective - these actions will make your organization stronger and help you grow personally and professionally. What drives you to do this work? I think raising awareness of who we are, what we do, and what still needs to be done in our community is critical to our mission. Our community needs to know the positive work that we do, the successes that we have, and what they can do to help further our mission. What do you like to do for fun?I enjoy being involved in organizations and share my time between my family, job, another non-profit organization, my daughter's school and ABWA. If there is any free time left, I sit on the couch with my dog and surf social media!Who do you look up to or feel inspired by within the YWCA?I'm inspired by the younger members of our board with their excitement and passion, like Kaitlyn Sester or Alison Pollock. And I am equally inspired by those members that have served on our board for many years because they care so deeply about the mission, like Judy Olander and Angela Dailey.Thank you, Liz! Like Liz said, getting involved helps you to grow personally and professionally. You can get involved by becoming a volunteer or donating to our mission today.
